Micronicon is an overly-ambitious art-dump website. It’s kind of like a warehouse for quality icons, desktop wallpapers and art tutorials, all at the low, low price of zero dollars! Micronicon is brand new to the nets, so give it’s overworked admin and her carpal-tunnel-crippled hand a little time to stock the archive. Grab the site rss feed and keep up-to-date on all the latest freebies!

Who Runs This Site?

Omara's Avatar

Hi! My name is Omara, and I’m a graphic design addict. I’m not kidding. The current design for this site has undergone at least 20 revisions! Finally, the site design is complete, and if I can just fight the compulsion to start redesigning it all over again (designing things for yourself is an absolute nightmare!) then maybe I can get some awesome, downloadable goodies out to y’all. That’s my goal anyways.

What are my reasons for creating this site? Well, as far back as I can remember, I’ve been creating artwork in different mediums. Along the way, I’ve gathered some great tips and tricks that I would love to share with everyone. Also, I’m hoping everyone will share their own, personal working methods and tricks in the comments of each article. There are many different ways to create engaging artwork, and I’m constantly in search of better technique. I will be excited to hear your discoveries.

If you have a suggestion for an icon pack, wallpaper, or tutorial that you would like to see covered in a future post here on Micronicon, or if you want to share your art finds from around the web, then you can contact me by e-mail. Just use the contact form at the bottom of the page.

Participation on Micronicon

On this site, users may participate in one of three ways. You may leave a comment at the bottom of articles, you may submit an article or artwork to be showcased on this site (not every submission will be selected for publication), or you can contact me by e-mail.

Guidelines for Commenting

Here on Micronicon, visitors may comment freely, but everyone will get along much better by following a few simple guidelines for commenting.

  1. You are always welcome to critique my work as well as other work featured on this site, but when you do it is best to explain the reasons why you dislike it. This helps me and other readers to use your criticism to improve our work.
  2. Please refrain from cursing in your posts. This site has educational material, and should be accessible to all age groups.
  3. Feel free to post a link to your own, personal site, but please do so only if it is relevant to the theme of the post.

What is the Download Key?

I’m glad you asked! The Download Key is a nifty little tool. It’s basically the same thing as the key or legend to a map. There are symbols that represent the available features for a particular download. For example, if you are looking for widescreen wallpapers, and you see this little symbol (This item is Available in Widescreen) at the bottom of the article, then you know that the desktop wallpaper you’re looking at is available for widescreen displays. if you don’t see that symbol, then the wallpaper is not available in your size, so you can quickly move on to search for other walls.

The Download Key has seven symbols that represent the following concepts:

Desktop Wallpaper Download Key

This Wall is Available in Widescreen

RSS Feeds and E-Mail Subscriptions

The best way to keep track of new material on Micronicon is by getting notifications sent to your e-mail inbox or your favorite rss reader. Can anyone say, “free downloads”? I knew that you could! When you subscribe, notifications are sent to you through the Google Feedburner service. There is no cost, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

What the Heck is an RSS Feed?

rss is an acronym that stands for, “Really Simple Syndication”. Personally, RSS is my favorite way to keep track of interesting sites around the web. Currently I have over 100 feeds in my RSS reader if you can believe it, and they keep me glued to my computer for much longer than is probably good for me!

All you need to get your own RSS addiction started is by installing an RSS-reading application on your computer, or by using a web-based reader, such as the popular Google Reader.

Once you have your reader installed, just select whichever Micronicon feeds you wish to follow. Here are a few that you might like:

Once you’ve subscribed to Micronicon, you will be alerted whenever there is an update to the site that you’re interested in.

E-Mail Subscriptions

Today, the majority of users who subscribe to websites do so through e-mail, or so I’ve been told. E-mail notifications make it easy to keep up-to-date on the latest free download releases and content that Micronicon offers. Signing up is easy-peasy! After all, in this modern age we’ve all sent and received e-mail before. Our e-mail notifications are sent through the Google Feedburner service, and are safe and reliable. Hop on over to Google Feedburner, and get alerts sent straight to your inbox.
